Karnataka Hijab Row: Staff blocking students from coming to the examination center wearing hijab

Karnataka Hijab Row: Hijab raga has started again in Karnataka. Students wearing hijabs were stopped by staff. With that, the students left. The High Court also dismissed the petition filed by several students.



 

There are indications that the hijab agenda, which has been chilling in Karnataka, is about to start again. The exams are being held for 12th class students in Karnataka. However, the staff stopped two students who came to write the exam wearing hijabs. He was advised to remove his hijab and go to the examination center as per government orders. However, the two students also said that the hijab would not be removed. The incident took place at Vidyodaya PU College in Udupi.

Approximately 6.84 lakh students across Karnataka are appearing for Class XII examinations. Of these, 3 lakh 46 thousand 936 were boys and 3 lakh 37 thousand 319 were girls. Authorities have set up 1076 test centers for this purpose. 1030 centers have also been set up for practical examinations. Approximately 267349 students are expected to attend the practicals. Karnataka Education Minister BC Nagesh has already made it clear that he will not be allowed into the examination center if he wears a hijab. Staff following the minister's orders stopped the students who were wearing hijabs.

Police also tightened security at the test centers. Carrying cell phones into the test center is also prohibited. A probiotic zone of up to 200 meters was imposed around the exam center. Meanwhile, four students of Udupi Pre-University Women's College, who were involved in the hijab agitation, have not even taken a hall ticket so far. Hall tickets were not taken against the government's decision to allow the wearing of the hijab. The petition filed by several students to attend classes wearing a hijab was dismissed. A special bench headed by Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Rituraj Avasti dismissed the petition. According to Islam, it is not obligatory to attend classes wearing a hijab.
