It is well known that the West is to blame for Russia's attacks on Ukraine. It is well known that many countries have imposed sanctions on Russia for not doing enough to stop these attacks. However, Russia has also imposed sanctions on some countries. Part of that was a decision to protect their country's economy from Western sanctions. Russia has announced that it will suspend gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria for failing to pay in rubles. Russia is the largest supplier of gas and oil to European countries. Currently, the decision has led to a 20% increase in the price of wholesale gas in the markets of those countries. This is almost seven times more than last year.

The move was condemned by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Responding to this, she said that it was not right to take a unilateral decision to stop gas delivery to consumers in Europe. Russia has been accused of blackmailing. She said they had close ties with all member states and had set up a commission to address the gas issue, which was in talks with countries outside Europe.
