ONDC piloted in 5 cities

 

New Delhi: The central government on Friday launched a pilot initiative in five cities to reduce the dominance of online retail giants domestically and to support the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) approach to small retailers. Delhi - National Capital Region (NCR), Bangalore, Bhopal, Shillong, and Coimbatore. Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal said ONDC was being piloted for selected consumers, vendors, and logistics service providers to make e-commerce benefits available to all.

The government has set a target of adding 150 retailers in the respective cities to ONDC. Anil Agrawal, Additional Secretary, Industries and Internal Trade Promotion Division (DPIIT), said that currently 80 companies are working with ONDC and the process of affiliating them is in various stages. He said he plans to reach 100 cities in the next six months. Agrawal explained that the company is also focusing on introducing apps in regional languages ​​to reach out to small businesses and rural consumers.
